Abstract
Phyllanthus amarus belonging to family Euphorbiaceae is an important herb used for the treatment of various diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery, dropsy, jaundice, intermittent fevers, urinogenital disorders, scabies etc. The objective of present investigation was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of Phyllanthus amarus. Antioxidant potential was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging activity using ascorbic acid as standard. The result showed that methanolic extract of whole plant of Phyllanthus amarus possess antioxidant property (IC50 41.61 µg/ml) compared to that of the standard ascorbic acid (IC50 12.93 µg/ml).
