Abstract
The present investigation was carried out on floristic composition of Vidya Pratishthan Educational Campus, Vidyanagari, Baramati, Dist-Pune. There is no comprehensive data available for floristic diversity of this area. Keeping these points in mind, the present investigation was planned. Biodiversity conservation is major concern now a day. The floristic survey was carried out during different seasons namely pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post monsoon of the year 2019-2020. During the course of study total 267 species belongs to 83 genera and 69 families have been reported. These families comprise 48 belongs to Dicotyledons with 199 species and 15 families of Monocotyledons with 58 species. There are 6 Gymnosperms species recorded from 4 families and 3 species of Pteridophytes belong to 2 families. The Fabaceae family was the most dominant family with 30 species followed by Arecaceae, Bignoniaceae, Apocynaceae, Acanthaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Moraceae, Verbenaceae, Araceae and Nyctaginaceae with 16, 15, 14, 12, 9, 8, 7, 6 and 6 plant species respectively. The total 267 plant species from 69 families have been documented with their botanical names, local names, families and flowering season. The study consists of total 267 species where 110 trees,90 shrubs, 58 herbs, 8 climbers and 5 climbing herbs were documented. This record of work is presented as per The Flora of Presidency of Bombay by Theodore Cooke. The plant species found in study area are mostly ornamental cultivated, exotic and naturally growing with varied habits such as herbs, shrubs, climbers, trees having different flowering seasons. The floristic composition shows biodiversity of different plant species. The degradation of biodiversity is the result of several natural as well as anthropogenic factors. Hence there is urgent need to protect the invaluable diversity of luxuriantly growing plant species in this area from further degradation. The present study will provide the baseline data for the stakeholders to plan the conservation of floristic diversity in this area.
