Invasive alien flora of Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract

A qualitative survey of the Invasive alien Flora of Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, revealed a total of 106 species belonging to 84 genera and 37 families. The family Astraceae was found most dominant with 17 species, followed by Fabaceae (12 species), Malvaceae (11 species) and Convolvulaceae (8 species). The study highlights the widespread invasion of alien species in the region, posing a significant threat to the native flora and ecosystem. The findings of this study emphasise the need for effective management and control strategies to mitigate the impacts of invasive alien species on the Biodiversity of Kanniyakumari District.
